Volunteer Kick-off The foundation

The materials are delivered. The stakes had already been placed on the site and concrete pouring had begun for the piers. We are ready for our volunteers on Saturday 19th March 2022.

After pegging out the site for log placement the holes are dug and we then use string to level sakrete cardboard cylinders in place. The leveling is done to ensure a good pier and beam foundation. As the holes were a little deep rocks are added before mixing the concrete and adding to each cylinder.

The children get pulled in to help with those tricky holes too!

The foundation pier and beam work starts day before the Volunteers come to participate in the Raise the Roof Program. Concrete is added to each cylinder and rebar is placed in the middle and plumbed.

The team are all here and ready for introductions and instructions on the plan for the day ahead.

A team effort to get those cylinders level as work on the piers is being completed.

One of our volunteer Veteran dads giving his son instruction on how to peel logs, after he’d finished making his own peeling tool.

Making great progress with the log peeling. There is a lot more to peel next week!

It was a real team effort to place that log on the rebar and smiles all round as the first post is up.

The kids proved useful in unexpected ways with some Mom guidance.

It was a beautiful day in Texas, we made great progress and new skills were learned on the site.

So what’s happening next week?

NaturalBuildingOrg welcomes volunteer help Thursday thru Saturday. We will be there and you can be too! Any of these days, any times that work for you reach out to us by sending an email to nbocob4vets@gmail.com or call on 8178124909.

Our activities in the coming week include -

  • Log peeling

  • More large logs to be placed on the outer walls of the building

  • Smaller internal logs to be placed

  • Pallets to go up for walls

Working with these larger logs is tricky and it does need a team effort for placement.

As we progress with the build you will see a triple reciprocal roof, pallets for walls, straw for insulation and cobbing the walls. There is a little of everything going on with this build.

Nothing makes you feel better than giving to others and creating community. People today are so focused on their own woes they have lost their sense of community, giving to others and feeling good amongst people. Magic happens when people come together with a shared sense of purpose.

One Veteran Home at a time - let’s do this!
