Getting ready to build

It all began with a phone call when a lady calls to enquire about Natural Building and wanting to build a cob home on their land. We are well into the conversation when she says her husband is a disabled Veteran. That was enough to change the tone of the conversation. Several steps later and NaturalBuildingOrg is seeing through on its mission to build a home a year for a disabled Veteran.

The pre-planning phase can take a long time, but when you have 2 woman with a similar vision it can also happen very quickly, fortunately this was the case. The house design is agreed quickly, the plans are drawn up and we are ready to get started!

natural buiding, triple reciprocal roof, pier and beam foundation, cob, pallets

This is going to be an interesting challenge. We have a pier and beam foundation, pallets, straw, cob and to top it off a triple reciprocal roof, design shown above.

Pigs overseeing the marking out of the site. It’s very common to look at the layout and think that it is not big enough. This is going to be a 2000 square foot home, and it doesn’t look that big. The tricks of the eye are at work!

The holes are then dug for the piers to be placed.

This makes the hole digging a much easier task. Of course we are referring to the tractor, but the man of the build is proving to be helpful too :)

The Home Depot delivery arrives - this is how our lady of the build rolls -

3480 pounds of concrete, a poop ton of wood and our tubes and rebar. Just finally got done with moving piece by piece and bag by bag myself since hubby had to go to work. Talk about a great workout hahah Putting concrete in the ground tomorrow and logs on Friday!!!! Then our build party on Saturday and Sunday!!!!

We will use local business in our build. Foxworth-Galbraith were very generous with our lumber needs.

All basic needs were met when Port-a-Jon dropped off these two.

Here we are now, NaturalBuildingOrg ready to start the dream and vision from so many years ago by building a Veteran and his family a beautiful new home.

One Veteran Home at a time - Let’s do this!
