This action-packed, hands-on workshop is for adults who intend to build their own cob home, or who seek to begin their learning journey toward helping others realize their natural building dreams! Test your grit during 10 days at Cob Hill Natural Building School, as Cat Taylor teaches the techniques and skills you will need to get from the foundation to the roofing system. We will learn about site placement and preparation, dig a rubble trench, stack a stone stem wall, tamp subfloors, set windows and of course cob, cob, cob!
Primitive tent camping site facilities are available on site. No electrical or wifi, but hot showers and 3 meals a day are included! There are compost toileting outhouses and handwashing stations near the build site, but because they are quite a hike from most of the campsites, workshoppers typically create a private composting area near their tents for night visits. You can bring your own bucket or a shovel and TP if you prefer. For those new to compost toileting we will provide instructions on that during orientation. Workshop participants are strongly encouraged to camp onsite not only to get the full experience, but also because there are miles of one-lane dirt roads between Cob Hill and the outside world and commuting morning and night would be rough on both your vehicle and the road.. Prospective attendees, please note that we are unable to accommodate guests, children or pets on site for the duration of the workshop; however, there are local lodging options available for them 20-30 minutes away including Daingerfield State Park, and two boarding facilities within 30 minutes of Cob Hill.
Cost is $950 each with $100 off if the registration includes 2 or more adults. These amounts include a non-refundable $200 dollar deposit that is required to reserve a spot in the class. Active duty military personnel and honorably discharged veterans with valid ID or DD214 may select the appropriate tuition tier to receive 20% off, and Cob Hill Lifetime of Learning (L.o.L.)
